Wix makes it easy to get a site live and much harder to take it anywhere else. That’s the honest starting point for any Wix to Framer migration. More of the work is manual than with WordPress or Webflow, but the payoff is usually the biggest: a faster site, real design freedom and a CMS your team actually enjoys using.

This guide covers what you can and can’t export from Wix, how to handle Wix’s URL patterns, and how to keep your rankings through the move. For the general picture, see our overview of migrating to Framer.

What Comes Across and What Doesn’t

Pages and design

Wix doesn’t export pages or designs. Every page is rebuilt in Framer, and the copy and images on regular pages usually need collecting by hand. For most Wix sites that’s a good thing, since it’s the chance to fix the layout and structure rather than recreate them.

CMS collections

Wix CMS collections can be exported as CSV files, which can then be imported into Framer’s CMS. The export includes links to your images, not the image files themselves, so download the originals and keep the Wix site live until every image is safely in Framer.

Blog posts

This is the hard part. Wix’s own help centre states that blog posts currently can’t be exported to other platforms. That leaves two options: copy the posts across manually, or use a third-party tool to extract them. For blogs with a few dozen posts, manual is often the fastest and cleanest route, and it’s a natural moment to update older posts or drop the ones that no longer earn traffic.

Wix apps

List every Wix app the site uses, such as bookings, forms, members areas and chat. Each one needs a replacement, usually an embedded third-party tool like Calendly for bookings or a native Framer form. Anything without a clear replacement needs a decision before you start. Wix Stores has no equivalent in Framer, so a site that sells products online needs a separate commerce service.

Before You Start

Pick the right Framer plan

Plan for Framer’s Pro plan. Framer lists site redirects as a Pro feature, and a Wix migration always needs redirects because the URL structure changes. Pro also includes staging, so you can review the new site before switching over.

Map every URL first

Because so much of a Wix move is manual, the URL map comes before anything else. Crawl your live site or pull your pages from Google Search Console, and list every URL with its title and meta description. Then mark the pages that bring in traffic and backlinks. Those are the ones that must keep their rankings, and your baseline for checking after launch.

Redirects

Wix blog URLs

Wix blog posts live at /post/post-name by default. Wix lets you rename the post prefix but not remove it. If your Framer blog uses /blog/post-name and keeps the same slugs, one wildcard redirect from /post/* to /blog/:1 covers every post at once.

Everything else

Map every other page by hand: old Wix URL on one side, new Framer URL on the other. Pages you’re dropping should redirect to the closest relevant page, not the homepage, and no indexed URL should end in a 404. Keep slugs identical wherever you can, since every URL that doesn’t change is one less thing that can go wrong. Older Wix sites may also still have hash-bang URLs (/#!page-name) indexed, so check for those too.

Metadata

Copy each page’s SEO title and meta description from Wix into Framer’s page settings, and for blog posts into dedicated Meta Title and Description fields. Wix doesn’t hand these over in any export, so they need copying across manually.

Your Domain

If you bought your domain through Wix, you’ll either transfer it to another registrar or point its DNS records to Framer. Check Wix’s transfer rules early so the switch doesn’t hold up launch day. If your domain is registered elsewhere, you only need to update the DNS records. Either way, leave your email (MX) records alone, and keep the Wix site live until the Framer site is confirmed working.

Launch and After

Review the full site on staging: every page, form, app replacement and redirect. Then switch your domain, submit your new sitemap in Google Search Console and compare traffic against your baseline for the next 8 to 12 weeks. Small dips while Google recrawls are normal. If a page drops and stays down, check its redirect and metadata first.

Planning a Wix Move?

A Wix migration is mostly rebuilding, so the cost depends on how many pages and posts you’re bringing across and how many Wix apps need replacing. The result is usually the biggest jump in speed and flexibility of any platform move.
